Saint Kitts and Nevis, a twin-island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, welcomes visitors from around the world with relatively straightforward entry requirements. The country operates a generous visa policy, allowing nationals from many countries to enter visa-free for tourism purposes. Visitors arrive primarily through Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport on Saint Kitts or Vance W. Amory International Airport on Nevis, where they will undergo immigration and customs procedures. All travelers must present a valid passport, proof of onward or return travel, and evidence of sufficient funds for their stay. The immigration process is generally efficient and welcoming, with officers focused on ensuring visitors have proper documentation and legitimate reasons for their visit. Most tourists are granted stays of up to 90 days, though this can vary based on nationality and circumstances. It's essential to prepare all required documents before arrival and ensure your passport has adequate validity beyond your intended stay. Saint Kitts and Nevis maintains modern immigration facilities and has implemented various health and security measures to ensure safe travel. The country's tourism-friendly approach makes it an accessible destination for Caribbean travelers, though requirements can change, so always verify current regulations before departure.

Tips for Smooth Entry

Have all documents organized and easily accessible before reaching immigration. Use a travel document holder to keep everything together.
Answer immigration questions clearly, honestly, and concisely. Avoid providing unnecessary information or appearing nervous.
Ensure your accommodation details are specific - have the full address and contact information, not just the hotel name.
Print important documents (ticket confirmations, hotel reservations) even if you have electronic copies, as backup in case of technical issues.
Dress appropriately and maintain a respectful demeanor. First impressions matter at immigration checkpoints.
If traveling for business, have invitation letters or conference documentation ready to present if asked.
Don't pack prohibited items in carry-on or checked luggage. Review customs regulations before packing.
Keep valuables, medications, and essential items in carry-on luggage in case checked bags are delayed.
Have local currency or major credit cards available. ATMs are available at the airport but may have queues.
Save the contact information for your country's embassy or consulate in Saint Kitts and Nevis in your phone before arrival.

Special Situations

Additional requirements for specific circumstances.

Traveling with Children

Children must have their own passport - they cannot be included on a parent's passport. Minors (under 18) traveling without both parents should carry a notarized letter of consent from the non-accompanying parent(s) authorizing the child to travel. This letter should include contact information for the parents, travel dates, and destination details. If traveling with only one parent, carry the child's birth certificate and the consent letter from the other parent. In cases of sole custody, carry legal documentation. Children are subject to the same visa requirements as adults. Unaccompanied minors may require special arrangements with airlines and immigration authorities.

Traveling with Pets

Pets entering Saint Kitts and Nevis require an import permit obtained in advance from the Veterinary Department of the Ministry of Agriculture. Requirements include: valid rabies vaccination certificate (administered at least 30 days but not more than 12 months before arrival), health certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian within 7 days of travel, and proof of treatment for internal and external parasites. Dogs and cats may require a quarantine period of up to 6 months depending on country of origin. Pets from rabies-free countries may have reduced quarantine requirements. Birds require special permits and health certificates. Apply for permits at least 6-8 weeks before travel. Certain breeds may be restricted. Contact: Veterinary Department, Phone: +1 (869) 465-2316.

Extended Stays

Visitors wishing to stay beyond their initial authorized period must apply for an extension before their current authorization expires. Applications are submitted to the Immigration Department in Basseterre, Saint Kitts. Required documents include: valid passport, completed extension application form, proof of financial means to support extended stay, accommodation details, return ticket, and fee payment (approximately XCD $100-200). Extensions are granted at the discretion of immigration authorities and are not guaranteed. Apply at least one week before your authorized stay expires. For stays longer than 6 months, you may need to apply for a different visa category. Working in Saint Kitts and Nevis requires a work permit obtained through your employer before arrival. Students require acceptance from a recognized institution and a student visa.

Business Travelers

Business visitors entering for meetings, conferences, or negotiations can typically enter under visa-free provisions if their nationality qualifies. However, you must not engage in paid employment or provide services. Carry documentation including: invitation letter from Saint Kitts and Nevis company, letter from your employer explaining purpose of visit, conference registration if applicable, and business cards. Business visitors should declare the purpose of their visit as 'business' rather than 'tourism' at immigration. For longer business stays or work assignments, a work permit is required, which must be arranged by your sponsoring company in Saint Kitts and Nevis before your arrival. Processing can take several weeks.

Cruise Ship Passengers

Cruise ship passengers on shore excursions typically do not need visas for brief visits (usually 24 hours or less) if their nationality would qualify for visa-free entry. Passengers must carry their cruise ship ID card and passport when going ashore. Immigration procedures are usually handled by the cruise line. If you plan to leave the ship before it departs or join the ship in Saint Kitts and Nevis, you must go through normal immigration procedures and meet all standard entry requirements. Check with your cruise line for specific requirements and procedures.

Digital Nomads and Remote Workers

Saint Kitts and Nevis does not currently have a specific digital nomad visa program. Remote workers who wish to stay while working for foreign companies should enter as tourists and comply with tourist visa duration limits. You cannot work for local companies or provide services to local clients on a tourist visa. If you wish to establish a longer-term presence, consult with the Immigration Department about appropriate visa categories. Ensure your activities do not violate the terms of your tourist entry. Internet connectivity is generally good in main areas but may be limited in remote locations.

Citizenship by Investment Participants

Saint Kitts and Nevis operates a Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program. Participants who have been granted citizenship should enter using their Saint Kitts and Nevis passport. During the application process, applicants should coordinate with their authorized agent regarding entry requirements. Those visiting to complete CBI procedures should enter as tourists and carry documentation related to their application if requested. Contact an authorized CBI agent for specific guidance on travel during the application process.

Transit Passengers

Passengers transiting through Saint Kitts and Nevis to another destination may not need to go through full immigration if remaining airside. However, if you leave the airport during transit or if your onward flight is the next day, you must clear immigration and meet all entry requirements for your nationality. Ensure you have valid visas for your final destination. If staying overnight, have accommodation details available. Transit passengers should carry all travel documents including tickets for onward travel.
